New Tool for the Hobby Farm

I bought a little tract of property to hunt on mostly, but it does have 7-10 acres of good tillable land. I bought this old 52 to play with out there. Got a plow, a 2 row planter and going to get a disc. Will mostly plant food plots to get the deer/turkey. Planning to feed them milo corn sunflowers and clover/wheat, but an acre of sweet corn for us, bunch of pumpkins etc.

Awesome pic. Thanks !
Your daughter looks like a little princess. So adorable.
I hope to find a good deal on a tractor soon,
every time I get close to getting one some other
expense pops up and keeps delaying me !!!

Nice paint job on the old gal.....they restore the entire machine ?

Roll bar is clearly an addition, and looks beefy, but too short to be effective.

Looks nice. Mine's a 52 as well. If it's a two bottom plow you'll have to put water in the tires or they'll spin. If that fuel line is rubber as it appears in the picture I'd get a steel one on it for safety, too close to the exaust manifold. Milo is the easiest food plot to plant. Plant early if you have a short season.
The girl is gonna have fun driving it. That's what I learned to drive on at about the same age.

If you plant sweet corn for yourself, count on more than enough, because you won't get much if you invite all the neighbors (deer/turkey) for lunch! Ask me how I know this.

Good find on the tractor. I had a Ford 640 (1955) up until about a year and a half ago. Sold it for a newer model diesel 4x4 w/bucket loader. I've about 8-9 acres tillable that I cash rent to a local farmer.

I did invite the local to lunch when I first moved here, but they were so destructive, I now have to take measures to protect personal property. I let the farmer count his losses on his crops. The wildlife still comes, but there is so many homes around, hunting has to be done with precision. That in mind, I hunt on private property that is not surrounded with homes and non-hunters.

Developers spoiled the area where I live, with so many people wanting a place in the country they try to make it like they had it in town. I see the same progress (ruin) about everywhere I go.

Thanks for the kind words about my daughter and tractor. For around here its a pretty good deal. No leaks, hydraulics work good, good rubber and it seems to run like a sewing machine. It has been converted to 12 volt. The idle seems to wander a bit but not under any kind of a load. I got it with a dearborn 2 bottom 14 inch plow for 2K. I am the 3rd owner. I haven't checked the compression, hopefully all 4 still over 100. Andy is right that ROPs is a tad short to do much, plus no seatbelt on that flip up seat. I intend to stay off the hills.

Are there any disadvantages to fluid in the tires other than rim rust should the tube leak? Wonder where I could get the CACL solution put in, do places that sell tractor tires still do that?

Hoarder, good eye on that rubber gas line. I have already looked into buying a pre bent metal line. Not sure how I'd bend one myself--but Its too close to that manifold for my taste as well.

QWAK,I have an old 9N I hauled down here from Chicago --- it needs lots of work and a TIRE (I blew it UP accidentaly :36_1_25::s10: at 30 PSI they EXPLODE:yes::s10::36_1_25: -- no body told me the tires are suposed to be LOW pressure :452::banghead:) It is 6 volt positive ground and has a front end loader but only power UP and gravity down.

It has been a LAWN ONIMENT/EYE SORE for 25+ years :36_1_25: I rebuilt the engin and replaced pistons rings and sleaves back in 79 or 80 but it has not run since 83.

I am debating just selling it and buying a more modern small tractor and a bush hog OR geting it restored and up graded to 12 volt negitive ground and just buying a bush hog for the old 9N.

It would be kind of cool having a tractor that works and is as old as I AM :23_30_104: but I am inclined to think it would likly be more pratical to get a newer tractor with more modern capabilities.

I have $1500.00 (back when I bought it and rebuilt the engin) in it and was only offered $800.00 for it a fiew years back and turned the offer down.

It is one of my "ROUND to IT" projects :4_1_72:

Duck, I'd advise getting it running before you sell it, if possible. Non-runners don't bring much around here, especially on the 9ns. The 9s have a front mounted distributor and 3 forward gears instead of 4. They seem to go a bit cheaper than 8s, especially when not running. You might watch craigs list for a used tire. Fixing it up enough to sell should make you a little money.

Whatever you do, don't replace it with copper. The vibration will crack it and with gravity flow....burn, baby burn. Check those links for a replacement. Maybe you can find a mechanic that has the flare tool and bender and he could make one out of brake line.
